Support Our Troops
- Description: Living in Searcy, Arkansas, with only a small amount of deployed soldiers, our patriotism suffers. Whether it is people we know or not, there are thousands of brave men and women separated by an ocean from their families. These men and women are self-sacrificing enough to risk their lives for our country. They deserve some credit from every American. Most average, everyday, teenagers are fully aware of the war taking place in the Middle East. What most people do not think about is the aching heart of every loved one the troops have left behind. Whether you are a mother, father, sister, husband, wife or girlfriend of a soldier in World War II, Vietnam, or the War in Iraq, the pain is the same. It is more than the troops overseas that need support. The family and friends left at home need help from our community as well. The video from Iraq was shot by a Searcy High School alumnus and permission for its use has been obtained.

- Description: The Veteran Support Organization, which operates in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Georgia, and Florida, are men and women who spend the day in the streets collecting change for needy veterans. The founder of VSO, Richard Vanhouten, is a military veteran who runs the South Florida chapter and has dedicated his life to getting our veterans off the streets. Many of the men and women who work for the Veteran Support Organization are veterans themselves, who have changed their life around through VSO and now help other veterans who faced the same problems they once faced. Through the pennies, nickels, and dimes that they collect, the Veteran Support Organization raised half a million dollars last year. Everyday, they work to house the Nineteen Thousand homeless veterans in the state of Florida, and have made supporting troops not just a slogan; they have made it their lives.

support our troops
- Description: Supporting our troops isn?t just about things or being in an organization; it?s about being there for our soldiers when they need us the most. It?s about our love and hope going out to them as they fight for our freedom. Any marine I have ever talked to has told me that the one thing that kept them going was knowing that everyone they loved was still down here waiting for them to come home. That is why my story is on how the love and hope of the community, friends, and family is enough to keep the marines going. As they fight for what we do, they know that we will always be here waiting for them with open hearts.
